Last weekend, the RAC Saddle Club buzzed with excitement as we hosted two incredible days of British Eventing – and what a weekend it was! From BE80 to Novice, Olympic heroes to first-time competitors, it was a true celebration of everything we love about the sport.
But here’s the honest truth: small regional BE venues like ours are finding it increasingly hard to survive. The costs involved in running affiliated events are significant – from ground prep and officials to infrastructure and insurance – and it can sometimes feel like an uphill climb.
Yet, we remain determined, passionate, and proud to continue flying the flag for British Eventing here in Dorset 💪. Why? Because regional venues matter. They’re the heartbeat of grassroots sport – the starting point for many young riders and the foundation for equestrian communities to thrive.
So it meant the absolute world to us when British Eventing CEO Rosie Williams made the journey to visit us in person. Her support for regional venues like ours really does make a difference. Thank you, Rosie!
We were honoured to welcome Olympic legends including William Fox-Pitt, Tina Cook and Mary King, who competed their young horses and took the time to chat with aspiring riders. For our local competitors – some as young as 12! – the chance to warm up and ride alongside such icons was unforgettable. It’s these moments that inspire confidence, fuel dreams, and remind us all why we do what we do.
We’ll keep doing our bit – improving our facilities, building new courses (look out for our 70cm track launching next month!), and giving riders of all levels the chance to experience the thrill of eventing.
To everyone who volunteered, rode, supported, or just cheered from the sidelines: thank you. Let’s keep championing the power of small venues and big dreams. 💫
