Vaccination policy wef 17 May 2019
After taking advice from our Vet, and in line with other Equestrian Centres in the area, we will no longer be checking all horse passports. In keeping with current legislation, all passports should accompany horses whilst travelling and we will spot check occasionally. We will are also relaxing our rule with regard to 6 monthly flu vaccinations and will accept horses vaccinated as per the guidlines below:
Equine influenza outbreaks continue to be reported across the UK in 2019.
At least 85% of those horses affected are, unvaccinated and a further significant risk is in, recently imported horses. However, so far this year, only two outbreaks have been reported in the South West. Cornwall and Somerset had single outbreaks each, in February.
No cases have been recorded in either of Hants, Wilts, Dorset or Devon.
In light of this evidence BSC, has the following policy for visitor competition horses.
The horses passport must show either;
a primary course of two vaccinations 1 -3 months apart, with the second vaccination having been undertaken 14 days prior to arrival.
a primary course as above with an additional third vaccination, 5 – 7 months after the second vaccination. The last vaccination having been undertaken 14 days prior to arrival.
a primary course of three vaccinations and subsequent annual vaccinations undertaken within 365 days of the preceding one. With the most recent vaccination having been undertaken 14 days prior to arrival.
