Alternative Education Provision

Empowering Young People Through Horses, Nature and Education

Our Equestrian Alternative Provision offers a calm and supportive environment where young people can reconnect with learning, rebuild confidence and discover their potential.

Through horses, nature and mentoring, we support young people who face challenges in traditional education settings. Our programmes combine education, personal development and hands-on learning to help young people grow both academically and emotionally.

Our mission is simple: to help young people re-engage with education and develop the confidence and skills they need for the future, while achieving certified accreditation or qualifications.

What We Offer

Equine-Assisted Mentoring

Working with horses is at the heart of our programme. Young people take part in structured activities that develop:

  • Confidence and trust
  • Communication skills
  • Emotional awareness and self-regulation
  • Responsibility and empathy

Horses respond naturally to human behaviour, providing honest feedback that helps young people better understand their emotions and actions.

Education and Qualifications

Students can work towards recognised qualifications including:

  • Functional Skills in English
  • Functional Skills in Maths
  • Personal Development Qualification (PDQ)
  • Changing Lives Through Horses (CLtH)
  • The British Horse Society Stage 1

These provide essential academic foundations while helping young people experience success and achievement. As well as this we offer curriculum support for young people to return to mainstream education.

Learning Through Nature

Being outdoors and working with animals helps young people slow down, explore and reconnect with themselves and the world around them. Our natural environment encourages:

  • Curiosity and discovery
  • Resilience and independence
  • A sense of purpose and belonging

Our Approach

A Safe and Supportive Environment

Young people learn best when they feel safe, understood and accepted. We create an environment where every participant feels listened to, respected and never judged.

Learning happens through experience, reflection and encouragement, helping young people build self-awareness and confidence. Our mentoring follows the Changing Lives Through Horses (CLtH) programme, combining equine learning with personal development.

Encouraging Reflection and Growth

Reflection is a key part of our work. We support young people to think about how their actions affect outcomes and explore positive ways to approach challenges.

While we do not provide therapy, our programmes naturally support:

  • Emotional wellbeing
  • Self-confidence
  • Resilience
  • Emotional intelligence

Flexible Support for Individual Needs

All of our programmes are bespoke and tailored to each young person.

They may support young people who:

  • Have experienced trauma or significant life challenges
  • Need additional support alongside school
  • Are transitioning back into education
  • Have been excluded or are struggling with school attendance

For many participants, this may be their first positive experience of education in a long time. Our aim is to help them move forward with confidence.

Individual and Group Programmes

We offer:

1:1 Sessions
Tailored support focused on the individual’s needs, pace and goals.

Small Group Sessions
Opportunities to build teamwork, communication and social skills in a supportive environment.

Both options provide a structured programme designed to support personal development and progress.

Preparing for the Future

Our work focuses not only on progress today but also on helping young people prepare for what comes next.

We encourage participants to think about their role within:

  • Education
  • Home life
  • Their community
  • Future opportunities

Our goal is to help every young person take positive, meaningful steps forward.
