Rising Stars Shine at RAC Saddle Club Pony Club Centre Plus

Website Blog

RAC Saddle Club continues to establish itself as one of the region’s leading training grounds for young equestrians, after a group of dedicated riders achieved outstanding results in their recent Pony Club tests.

In October, the club hosted Pony Club C+ and B Tests for 14 young riders, marking another milestone in its growing reputation as a Pony Club Centre Plus — a status that recognises excellence in both riding instruction and horse care education. Of the 14 participants, four were from RAC Saddle Club’s own Pony Club, and all four passed with flying colours.

Even more impressively, two of the successful riders were only 12 years old, despite the recommended age for these assessments being 14. Their achievement is a testament to the club’s high standards of coaching, supportive environment, and the riders’ own determination and skill.

“We’re incredibly proud of our young riders,” said a spokesperson for RAC Saddle Club. “Their success shows that with the right support, commitment, and quality instruction, age is no barrier to achievement in equestrian sport.”

What Is the Pony Club C+ Test?

The Pony Club C+ Test is an important step in a young rider’s development, bridging the gap between the C and B levels. It demonstrates a rider’s ability to care for and ride a horse independently, with confidence, empathy, and skill.

To pass the C+ Test, candidates must:

  • Ride effectively on the flat and over fences, showing balance, control, and a good understanding of rhythm and pace.

  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of horse care, including feeding, grooming, tack, and the daily management of a stabled horse.

  • Understand the horse’s welfare and behaviour, with an emphasis on safety, responsibility, and respect for the animal.

  • Show maturity and independent thinking, both in practical tasks and in their approach to riding and stable management.

Those who successfully complete the C+ Test are eligible to progress toward the Pony Club B Test, the first Pony Club qualification to receive official international recognition. Both levels are excellent additions to an equestrian CV and can provide direct entry into higher-level British Horse Society (BHS) qualifications, opening doors to professional pathways in equestrianism.

Looking Ahead

The RAC Saddle Club’s Pony Club Centre Plus status means that riders benefit from structured, progressive training that aligns with the national Pony Club syllabus. The club is committed to developing well-rounded horsemen and horsewomen—riders who are confident, capable, and compassionate.

“We’re not just teaching riding,” the club’s instructors explain. “We’re helping young people build the foundations of a lifelong passion, and possibly even a professional career, in the equestrian world.”

Get Involved

For anyone inspired by these achievements, the RAC Saddle Club welcomes new members to its Pony Club Centre Plus. Riders can join to learn new skills, take part in tests and competitions, and become part of a supportive, horse-loving community.

Whether you’re aiming for your first Pony Club badge or preparing for advanced qualifications, RAC Saddle Club offers the expertise and encouragement to help you succeed.
